The Guangzhou 2008 Food and Drug Monitoring Meeting issued statement that a citywide adverse reaction dimensional medicine monitoring system has basically been put into place. All administrative villages have been united with the village medicine monitoring network and the medicine supply and distribution system.

Five systems, namely food safety and inspection, transportation, information, government monitoring and social supervision systems have now been established. Last year, a special campaign was staged to define and describe the medicine market in order to standardize market operations. Meanwhile, the medicine adverse reaction monitoring program filed a new chapter, consolidating its leading role in the province as a whole. With the establishment of such a system will come the improvement of the ability to handle medicine safety cases.

The focus of the food and drug monitoring efforts in Guangzhou will be to improve public welfare. For this purpose, drug safety will be prioritized. Food and drug safety warning systems, an emergency system and publicity system will be established and the food and drug safety monitoring system will also be improved.
