The 4th China Ornamental Potted Plants Fair will run from December 31st, 2007 until January 3rd, 2008 at the Guangzhou Flower and Plant Exhibition Garden. The exhibition area of over 20,000 square meters as well as 225 booths would be divided into several zones focusing on butterfly orchids, Chinese Cymbidiums, common camellia, Cymbidium hyridus, fruit-effect plants and so on.
Some priceless flowers and plants will be available at the fair, including the common camellia from Dali of Yunan Province, which has purple flowers and is difficult to cultivate. At the last fair, such common camellia (named Zipao in Chinese) of 40 to 50 centimeters tall cost between 50 thousand to 60 thousand Yuan in Yunan Province. As a result, one branch can cost as much as 10 thousand Yuan with each leaf priced one thousand Yuan at most, more valuable than gold.
According to the organizing committee for the fair, over 600 enterprises have applied so far to participate in the competition for the Golden Flower Award, China's highest prize for ornamental potted plants. The plant that wins Golden Flower Award will be auctioned at the fair. Also, the fair will witness a competition of combined ornamental potted plants, which would be available for the citizens to participate in.
