The places and times of the ten spring flower markets in Guangzhou were finalized on January 3rd, 2008. The ten flower markets include: West Lake of Yuexiu, East Lake of Yuexiu, Liwan, Haizhu, Tianhe, Huangpu, Baiyun, Luogang, Fanyu and Huadu. Flower markets in Yuexiu, Liwan, Haizhu, Tianhe, Huangpu and Baiyun will begin on February 4th, flower markets in Luogang on February 2nd, Fanyu from January 31st and Huadu from January 28th. The ten flower markets will all close at 2 o'clock on the morning of February 7th£Ĵor the first day of the Lunar New Year. It has been expected that over one thousand strains of flowers will be presented and their prices would be in parallel with those of last year.

As the news spokesman of the Yuexiu flower market put it, this year's flower market will be as long as usual and won't be interrupted by the holiday leave of the Lunar New Year's Eve. The number of people that will go to Xihu flower market is expected to total 500,000.

To ensure safe market flow, Yuexiu District is currently installing electronic eyes where the flower markets are located. If there is an excessive flow of people, the flower market entrance may be closed temporarily with the exit left open. The neighboring old houses and wood-structured houses have recently become subject to fire fighting safety supervision to avoid droppings from high places or fire when the flower markets are open.
