It has been reported from the Guangdong Museum that the new museum lying in the south of the Zhujiang New City, close to Pearl River and opposite of Guangzhou Opera House would be completed and open to the public at the end of this year.
The new museum is a result of Li Yan, an architect from Hong Kong whose design entitled "Container Full of Jade" stood out among the 9 proposals.
The new museum has a total investment of over RMB 900 million. It is by far the world's largest arch hanging structure with 5 floors above ground and one floor under ground. It is 43 meters high. Its shape is artistic and unique.
The main construction materials of the whole museum are metals, stones and wood. The box-shaped surface is a steel hanging structure and was low priced. It is stable, earthquake-proof and construction-friendly. Books will dominate the exhibits. Some other artifacts like the Dragon boat of Liede village collected from the public have also settled here.
