On January 15th, the 2007 working conference on science and technology awarding ceremony for advances in science and technology was held at the city hall. The winners of the highest prizes were Mao Xinping, General Engineer of the Guangzhou Zhujiang Steel Co., Ltd., and Huang Xianbo, Vice Director of the Technology Center of Kingfa Sci. & Tech. Co., Ltd, who won RMB300 thousand respectively for their contributions to advances in science and technology.

The 79 prizes covered advances in science and technology concerning every industry and field, of which 37% were related to food safety, information security, energy, environmental protection and health care. As a result, they have brought in a total output value of RMB9 billion, tax revenue of RMB3.5 billion, foreign exchange of USD1.6 billion and have helped to save over USD800 million.

42% of the 79 projects that won prizes have been independently conducted by enterprises of which 46% were private ones, which has shown that private enterprises play a more and more important role in the advances of science and technology.
