The overseas Chinese and the Chinese in the ChaoShan region were the impellers of the economic, cultural exchanges between Guangdong and the other parts of the world in early years. Such contact was already very hot during the Qing dynasty. Red-headed boats were an important means of trade and shipping for Chaozhou with Southeast China in the Qing dynasty, mostly run by overseas Chinese of Chaozhou origin residing in Thailand. There are also sculptures of Red-headed boat in Thailand now.
