
The open ceremony of 4th Yunfu International Stone Fair
On Oct 21, the 4th Yunfu International Stone Fair opens in the Yunfu International Stone Exhibition Center. The session has 323 exhibitors, with 36 from abroad, while the participating guests, purchasers and reporters are said to exceed 5,000.
Yunfu, as the youngest city of Guangdong, build its economy on the stone processing. The city, with a population of 2.67 million, has over 3,000 stone enterprises and 100,000 employees, with a product ability of over 60 million sq.m. of stones every year. The industry¡¯s output exceeded 5 billion RMB in 2006, and is expected to go up to 6 billion this year.
Currently, Yunfu stone¡¯s exportation is not as strong as its domestic sales. Its stone can be found in underground stations, large buildings in most domestic large cities. And in recent years, the stone industry¡¯s ripple effect help the fast expansion of stone procession machine manufacturing, transportation and other related industries. Now the stone industry is expanding at an annual 20 percent and an industry chain is taking shape.
As more Hong Kong and foreign investors join the local industry, the enterprises now are more aware of building their own brand and enhancing their product development and quality control, with many large enterprises has got ISO9002 certificates.
And the government, in recent years, has focused on the green production and supported the enterprises in solid waste and sewage treatment improvement.
Boosting stone export is one of the government¡¯s top tasks in recent years. The government has organized many delegations for local stone factories to participate the domestic and international exhibitions. And hosting the international stone exhibition in Yunfu is the city¡¯s important work of the year. And this year, the organizer added an activity of ¡°Stone Art Competition¡±, which encourage the local stone enterprises and the craftsmen to combine the culture with the industry in a bid to promote the local culture as well as to expand the stone art industry.
