
Overseas Chinese teenagers perform Chinese classic dances they have just learned
On January 3rd, more than 380 overseas Chinese teenagers from 14 countries were gathering at Jinan University's Shao Yifu Gymnasium to attend the closing ceremony for the 2007 Winter Camp for Overseas Chinese Teenagers jointly hosted by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, the China Overseas Exchanges Association and Jinan University.
At the ceremony, college students were fascinated by the handicrafts with Chinese characteristics made by those overseas Chinese including paper-cuttings, Peking opera facial makeup and Chinese knots.
The winter camp ran from December 22nd, 2007 till January 3rd, 2008. It was a period of time when those overseas Chinese teenagers learned from the teachers of Jinan University the Chinese culture, Kongfu and ethnic dances. Also, the lectures on Chinese movies and history & culture provided them with a chance to think and communicate in Chinese.
Officials in charge of the camp said that the winter camp helped the overseas Chinese teenagers learn more about China and increased their interest in learning Chinese and the Chinese culture. In addition, those teenagers aged between 7 and 18 established close relationships during the past half month. They learned to be independent and cooperate with each other.
