It has been twenty years since Frankfurt became a "Sister City" of Guangzhou. A series of activities, including concerts, painting exhibitions and art exhibitions, would be held in Guangzhou between April 8th and 23rd to celebrate the 20th anniversary.

On April 8th, Mayor Zhang Guangning met with a delegation led by Petra Roth, Mayor of Frankfurt, and then attended "Frankfurt on River Pearl" ¨C the opening ceremony of serial activities for celebrating the 20th anniversary. Mayor Zhang delivered a welcoming speech, saying that Guangzhou should learn from Frankfurt's experience in management and convention and exhibition industry and further widen its vision.

As part of the serial activities, a photo and book exhibition of contemporary German works was held at Guangzhou Library on the morning of April 8th.

In addition, as a highlight of the anniversary celebration, Frankfurt presented a sculpture of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe as a gift to Guangzhou on April 9th, which would be placed in Liuhuahu Park.
