On November 22nd, Zhang Minghui, a famous master of Chinese arts and crafts, exhibited a bone sculpture named Boundless Happiness. The bone sculpture is said to be the largest bone/ivory sculpture in China.
It looks like a white wall that is 260 centimeters long, 60 centimeters thick and 380 centimeters high. On the sculpture are flowers, birds, fishes, scenes, people, buildings, animals and plants, too many for the eyes to take in. In addition, various techniques including relief and freestanding were applied.
It took more than 40 people one year to turn 5 tons of beef bones into the 2-ton sculpture. Zhang said that it was harder to deal with the larger sculptures and the biggest challenge was with the mosaic.
