On the afternoon of December 25th, a meeting on the construction of spiritual civilization in rural areas was held by the Guangzhou Spiritual Civilization Committee. Wang Xiaoling, member of the CPC Guangzhou Committee and director of the Publicity Department, attended and addressed the meeting. Presided over by Vice Mayor Chen Guo, the work on the building of Spiritual Civilization Model Villages was reviewed, and 26 model villages and 17 advanced units were granted. Currently the number of Guangzhou's Model Villages has reached 36. At the request of the CPC Guangzhou Committee and the municipal government, by 2010 about 100 municipal-level Model Villages would be built in Guangzhou.
