15 British youth arrived in Huizhou on 14 July 2004 to start their 9-day cooking camp arranged by Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Guangdong Province and Huizhou(OCAO).
These campers are from different cities in UK. After several days familiarization in the camp, they are now like brothers and sisters in a big family. The campers all have Chinese faces, while they don't really know much about China and Chinese culture. Some of them even haven't been in China before! "I really want to know Chinese culture starting from learning Chinese cooking." said one of the campers.
In the morning of 15 July, they started the first cooking class. Chef Huang showed them how to cook Hakka food starting from two dishes, fried squid and fried green pepper, carrot, red chilli & meat. Chef Huang was initially a bit worried about how the campers from UK can understand the Hakka cooking method. To his surprise, after 1 hour hard work, the two dishes were finished in each group with bright color and delicious taste. If you don't believe, look at the pictures!
Last night, the campers met a group of local high school students from No. 8 Middle School in Huizhou. They had nice free talk in English. They didn't expect the oral English of the local students is so high. Some of the local students even pick up British accent without going abroad!
