Xavier School Chinese Learning Class Closing Ceremony held

The closing ceremony of Xavier School Chinese Learning Class, a Filipino educational institute, was hosted in South China Normal University (SCNU) on December 6, 2007.

Wu Xingci, Deputy Director General of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Guangdong Province (OCAO), Liu Ming, President of SCNU, and Na Jiying, Vice Chief of Grade School of Xavier School, attended the ceremony. A total of 174 student parents also came to Guangzhou from the Philippines for the event.

Xavier School is prestigious Chinese-Filipino school with half of students of and part of teaching staff as Chinese-Filipinos.

Wu, Liu and Na addressed at the ceremony respectively.

It is an advisable move for Xavier School to send students to China to learn Chinese, Wu said, adding it is a choice showing school¡¯s strength and vision which makes great contribution to the Chinese language education for overseas learners in the province.

SCNU¡¯s undertaking of the event with its own advantages not only promote its own development but also makes new contribution to the Chinese language education for overseas learners in the province, Wu added.

OCAO will spare no efforts to strengthen its cooperation with SCNU and Jinan University in this regard, Wu said.
Na said Xavier School organizes Chinese-learning program for its students on an annul basis with higher education institutes located in Beijing and Shanghai. ¡°But it is the first time for Xavier School to launch such a event with a higher education institute in Guangzhou,¡± Na added.

¡°I wish more cooperation could be realized in the future,¡± Na said. 

OCAO is the special department which serves for the overseas Chinese right all over the world. Henceforth, OCAO will work together with SCNU, Ji Nan University, and the other provincial universities, to do more works to impulse the overseas Chinese education development. 

A total of 125 students with an average of 12 to 13 years completed the 6-week-long learning program on November 24.
